Asia Energy & Infrastructure Finance Leaders Dialogue

Energy is key to sustain the growth of Asia’s thriving economies. Yet, falling oil prices, corporate restructuring activities as well as Chinese outbound investment are expected to impact the industry. The move to develop renewable energy is increasingly becoming an important theme as Asian governments commit to the COP21 goal of reducing carbon emission. The advent of new technology is helping advance the green agenda. China and Taiwan have issued green bonds, projects in Malaysia incorporates green principles and Asia saw the launch of its maiden climate bond from the Philippines. On the other hand, investors have been searching wide and far for instruments that could help them improve returns. With the prevailing low interest rate environment, one area of growth is investing in infrastructure and it comes at a time when banks’ higher regulatory costs are constraining their ability to fund longer term projects.
