C3ntro Telecom, a telecommunications operator primarily serving Mexico and Latin America, has secured a project finance facility from Proparco and DEG ( KfW Group ) to support the development of its first cross-border long-haul fibre optic project.
The financing will support the Mexican segment of a 2,700-kilometre fibre network connecting hyperscale data centres in Querétaro, Mexico, and Phoenix, Arizona – two strategic digital infrastructure hubs experiencing rapid growth amid rising hyperscale and AI demand.
Project Tikva is expected to strengthen Mexico’s long-haul fibre infrastructure, establish a new high-capacity connectivity corridor between Mexico and the United States, and advance broader objectives related to digital inclusion, economic development, and regional competitiveness, while being developed in alignment with applicable international environmental and social standards.
“Closing this syndicated facility with Proparco and DEG is a defining milestone for C3ntro and for Mexico’s digital infrastructure,” says Simón Masri, president of C3ntro Telecom. “Beyond enabling disciplined execution, this project is designed to deliver meaningful benefits for Mexico – strengthening backbone connectivity, helping narrow the digital divide by improving access and quality of service along underserved regions and cities along the route, and supporting long-term economic growth and competitiveness as the country accelerates its digital transition.”
C3ntro operates approximately 2,500 kilometres of state-of-the-art fibre infrastructure across Mexico’s principal regions. The network includes 700km of fibre metro rings specifically for Data Centre Interconnect ( DCI ) infrastructure in Querétaro, which links all major data centres in the area.
